Listed below is a selected list of some of the projects mastered at the Kitchen this summer:
ZOX - ZOX has been creating quite a stir in their native Rhode Island as well as the northeast in general with their own blend of rock, reggae & punk (with voilin) delivered with an infectious edge and intesity. Their latest project, 'The Wait', mastered by Brent Lambert this summer, was the best-selling album in Rhode Island when it was released in late August & hit #7 on the national Billboard Internet Album charts (right between Black Eyed Peas and Coldplay). You will be seeing & hearing more from Zox in the near future. producer: Ted Comerford mix engineer: Mitch Easter. mastered: Brent Lambert. www.zoxband.com
Valient Thorr - Valient Thorr is perhaps one of the most captivating rock acts around. Thorr and the band, all native Venusians, have created the Warp Tour's biggest buzz this summer & have been criss-crossing the country spreading their full frontal, energetic rock n' gospel every step of the way. They spend some time with chief engineer, Brent Lambert, earlier in the summer to master their first commercial release, "Total Universe Man", for Volcom Entertainment. recorded/mixed: John Plymale. mastered: Brent Lambert. www.valientthorr.com
Jump Little Children - The latest release (and perhaps last for some time) for this Charleston, South Carolina band shows the band at the top of their craft. This band has always showed tremendous talent and a fresh approach to pop music. This release is no exception. mastered: Brent Lambert. www.jumplittlechildren.com
Mercy Filter - Kenny Roby's new project is called The Mercy Filter and it may be his best yet. This time he's teamed up with musicians Justin Faircloth (The Houston Brothers), Scott McCall (The Two Dollar Pistols), Mark O'Brien and David Kim. All contribute to he unique tone of this album. mastered: Brent Lambert. www.kennyroby.com
Claudia Quintet – The third release by one of John Hollenbeck's best ensembles, Claudia Quintet continues into uncharted territory. In the words of John himself, "The basic notion was to create a 2-part (i.e. Side A/Side B) continuous excursion. The 'Claudia' sound is like a warm, thick pudding to me. I thought it would be great to alternate this sound/taste with some palette cleansers - pieces where we are playing instruments not associated with the 'Claudia' sound." Claudia’s previous project, “I, Claudia” (Cuneiform Records) received a great number of accolades and exhortations from, "...superb, technically ingenious...,passionate and serious, but also playful and funny..." to “what the hell is it?”. recorded/mixed: Andy Taub, mastered: Brent Lambert. www.johnhollenbeck.com
Hotel Lights - This summer engineer Alan Weatherhead (The Comas, Sparklehorse, Camper Van Beethoven) met with Brent to master a new EP for Hotel Lights. Following last year's brilliant self-titled debut, the new EP possesses a similar character with a subtle shift in production and a bolder use of electronics on a couple of tracks. Darren Jessee's (Ben Folds Five) gentle and vulnerable voice is still present although perhaps a bit more relaxed and confident. At times the songs evoke the simmering warmth of a daydream and at other times a gentle, wistful slow-motion. recorded/mixed: Alan Weatherhead, mastered: Brent Lambert. www.hotellights.net |
